The Chautauqua Institution on the shores of Chautauqua Lake was, and continues to be, a major draw for visitors each summer. It was served by the Chautauqua Traction Company and by the Chautauqua Branch of the Pennsylvania Railroad.

The original station at the Chautauqua Institution was a wood structure that extended over the tracks. It was replaced in 1917 by a new brick station with a more classical character, complete with columns. This station remains as the main entrance to the Institution.
