1904 NYS Report on the Jamestown, Chautauqua and Lake Erie Railway

Below is the report of Jamestown, Chautauqua and Lake Erie Railway to the New York State Railroad Commissioners for the period ending on June 30, 1904. During the year the company made improvements to the railroad, including widening cuts on the section between Mayville and Westfield, and purchasing a new snowplow, caboose, and spending $4,045.31 on a new gasoline propelled passenger car, which was not yet complete.

The report showed that the railroad operated five locomotives. It owned three locomotive with four driving wheels, owned one with six drivers, and leased one with six drivers (locomotive #11). It owned five first-class passenger cars, nine second-class passenger cars, two combination baggage and passenger cars, and one baggage, mail and express car. It also owned one caboose and 18 service cars, 17 that were used to haul ballast during the construction of the roadway and one inspection car. These were unchanged from the previous year.

The railroad reported the one person was killed during the year, but did not provide any details.
