An 1883 article discussing the fear among some people in Rochester that the New York Central Railroad was planning to purchase the “West Shore and Buffalo” road, the New York, West Shore and Buffalo Railway. Though the writer dismissed this idea, the New York Central did lease the West Shore in December 1885.
