The Buffalo and Lockport Railway

The Buffalo Commercial of last evening says:

“There is a good prospect that the proposed Buffalo and Lockport Railway will be constructed at an early day. The directors of the company have advertised for bids for grading the route. -A connection will be made at Tonawanda with the Niagara Falls branch of the Erie Railway, thus reducing to only thirteen miles the length of road required to make a competing line the entire distance. The proposals for the work, which will be opened at noon today, specify that operations shall be commenced without unnecessary delay. Twenty days, we believe, is the time allowed for preparation.

The people of Lockport are manifesting much uneasiness in regard to this railway at present. They fully appreciate that if the line is not constructed now, it will not be for many years, if ever. The new constitutional amendment prohibits counties or municipalities from subscribing to private enterprises or this kind. without which aid the road is not likely to be built. The improvement will be of immense advantage to Lockport, giving it good transportation facilities and cheaper rates than it can ever reasonably expect while there is only a single line.
