Station Was on Fire

STATION WAS ON FIRE.

Farmer Webb and Bucket Brigade Saved It.

At about 5:30 o’clock Friday afternoon the Rome, Watertown and Ogdensburg railroad station at Appleton, in the town of Newfane, caught afire from some unknown cause and was soon apparently beyond hopes of saving. When discovered a bucket brigade was hastily working some time without succeeding in putting out the flames decided to give up the fight. A farmer, named Webb, who was loading hay nearby took a hand and led the bucket brigade to get at the fire at close range, and succeeded in extinguishing the fire after some hard work. The flames had burned considerably in the interior of the station and had eaten several good-sized holes through the roof.
