Shipping Fruit in 1877

Fruit buyers on the line of the L. O. S. railway are at a loss to know what to do with their fruit. No cars can be obtained in which to ship the fruit and potatoes, and there they lie. A friend from Somerset informs us that the yard and depot at Barker’s station, is full of apples and potatoes, waiting for cars to ship them.

Note: The “L. O. S. Railway” refers to the Lake Ontario Shore Railroad, which was absorbed by the Rome, Watertown and Ogdensburg Railroad in December 1875, two years before the article. This is another example of how newspapers, and I suspect people, often refer to the prior names of railroads.
