The Western New York and Pennsylvania Traction Company was a regional electric railroad that operated in Western New York Station and Northwestern Pennsylvania between 1906 and 1921.
History
The Western New York and Pennsylvania Traction Company was the successor, through a series of short-lived companies, of the Olean, Rock City and Bradford Railroad. The Olean, Rock City and Bradford Railroad went through a rapid series of corporate changes in 1906. On February 21 , 1906, Mr. William E. Burdick, of Bradford , PA, was appointed receiver of the company, and on June 17 , 1906 , it was sold to Mr. William L. Marcy. As of July 1 , 1906, the property in the State of New York was transferred to the Rock City Railroad Company. This new company was registered with the New York Secretary of State on August 4, 1906.
On November 14 the Bradford Street Railroad Company was formed. On the same day the Rock City Railroad and Olean Street Railway consolidated under the name of the Olean Street Railway. Three days later, on November 17, 1906, the Bradford Street Railroad Company and Olean Street Railway Company merged to form the Western New York and Pennsylvania Traction Company.
Soon after being formed, the company expanded by building a line from Olean to Salamanca and Little Valley. It also built a line from Olean to Bolivar, NY.
In early 1915 there were a number of news articles about the WN&P Traction Company being interested in purchasing the former Buffalo and Susquehanna Railroad right-of-way between Buffalo and Wellsville to expand their network, but nothing was ever done to implement those ideas.
On October 1, 1921 the company was reorganized as the Olean, Bradford and Salamanca Railway Company.
