While the first section of Train No. 336 on the Central Railroad of the station at Fancher, east of Albion, this morning the engine of the second section crashed into the rear coach of the first section, smashing it somewhat and causing the coach to take fire.
The coach was considerably damaged by the flames. Traffic on the road was delayed about one hour.
At the office of Supt. Bradfield of the New York Central here, a reporter of the NEWS was told that the wreck occurred in front of the station at Fancher.
“The first section of Train 385 had stopped at the station,” said an attache of the Superintendent’s office, ” and according to the advices, which we have received, the engine of the second section ran into the rear coach of the first section.
“The rear coach of the first section was an ordinary day coach. It was somewhat damaged by the collision, which caused it to take fire.
“The coach was considerably damaged by the flames before they were extinguished.
Only one of the passengers in the rear coach of the first section was injured – Miss Catherine C. Reddy of 36 West Thirty-second street, New York City. Her back was hurt, and one or her leg was injured. She was carried into the station, and was attended by one of the village physicians. It was found on examination that she was suffering considerably from shock. In other words, he was half frightened to death.
Her clothing was badly torn. When she had recovered so as to be able to talk it was found that her personal effects were missing, including her ticket to Niagara Falls.
None of the other passengers was injured, though several of them reported having lost valises, umbrellas, overcoats, etc.
