PLANS FOR THIRD OF ERIE’S CUT-OFFS.
Double Track to Be Laid From Kennedy, N. Y., to Corry, Pa.(By Associated Press.)
New York, Sept. 2.—Arrangements were perfected today for the third of the systems of cut-offs on the Erie railroad designed to reduce the grades as near to water level as possible.
This calls for the construction of a single track line paralleling the main line between Lakewood, N. Y., at the
foot of Chautauqua lake, westward to Watts Flats, a distance of 15 miles. From that point west to Columbus, Pa, a distance of about 10 miles, a double track line will be built to take the place of the existing main line, reducing a 35 foot grade to a 2.10 percent grade. The improvement will cost approximately a million dollars.
The work is undertaken now in order to have it perfected in time to obviate some of the difficulties of winter traffic in the locality mentioned.
This will give the Erie a double track the entire distance between Kennedy, 10 miles east of Jamestown, and Corry, Pa, through a busy manufacturing district.
