Jamestown, NY Boatlanding

A postcard mailed in 1915 showing the Boatlanding area of Jamestown, NY. eBay.

The Boatlanding in Jamestown, NY was the port at the southern end of Chautauqua Lake and was, as the name implies, the point where boats on the lake landed to pick up and drop off passengers in Jamestown. It was also the southern terminus of the series of railroads that ran along the eastern show of Chautauqua Lake – the Chautauqua Lake Railway (1887 – 1894), the Jamestown and Lake Erie Railway (1894 – 1899), the Jamestown and Chautauqua Railway (1899 – 1902), the Jamestown, Chautauqua and Lake Erie Railroad (1902 – 1913), and the Jamestown, Westfield and Northwestern Railroad (1913 – 1950).

In addition to the railroads running north along the east side of the lake, the Jamestown Street Railway ran to the Boatlanding and the Chautauqua Traction Company ran over the Fairmont Street bridge between Jamestown and Lakewood.
