Farmersville is a village in Cattaraugus County and was a station on the Rochester Line of the Buffalo, Rochester & Pittsburgh Railway. The town was sometimes referred to as “Farmers Valley” or “Farmersville Station” by the railroad.

The station was located in what is now the hamlet of Farmersville Station, which is northeast of the village of Farmersville in the town of Farmersville.

History

The line through Farmersville was completed in 1878 by the Rochester and State Line Railroad. The line was later operated by the Rochester and Pittsburgh Railroad (1881-1887), the Buffalo, Rochester and Pittsburgh Railway (1887-1932) and the Baltimore and Ohio (B&O) Railroad (1932-1986). In 1986 the B&O sold their operations in Western New York to the Genesee and Wyoming Railroad, which split it into two companies. The Rochester and Southern Railroad operated the former B&O line between Rochester and Salamanca. The R&S later abandoned the portion of the line between Silver Springs and Machias, NY.
