
Dewittville is a hamlet in the town of Chautauqua, NY on the east side of Chautauqua Lake. It was a stop on the Jamestown, Westfield, and Northwestern Railroad and predecessors.
History
The first train in the village was the Chautauqua Lake Railway which opened from Jamestown to Mayville Jct. on July 25, 1887. On October 17, 1894 the company was reorganized into the Jamestown and Lake Erie Railway and on January 1, 1899 the company reorganized again became the Jamestown and Chautauqua Railroad. The railroad became the Jamestown, Chautauqua and Lake Erie Railway on July 1, 1902 and on December 8, 1913 the Jamestown, Westfield and Northwestern Railroad took over the line and electrified the line.
