The construction of the first railroad in this state to be operated wholly by gasolene power is provided for in a certificate of public convenience and necessity issued by the up-state Public Service Commission to the Panama Traction Co., for a six mile line between Panama and Ashville, through a sparsely settled rural section of Chautauqua county which has no other rail service of any kind except an electric railway to Ashville.
The new road will carry both freight and passengers. Passengers will be carried in a light and relatively small coach containing its own gasolene power plant.
