Below is the report issued by an inspector from the New York State Railroad Commissioners in their report for the year ending June 30, 1895. I don’t know when in the year the report was written, but it was soon after the Jamestown and Lake Erie Railway succeeded the Chautauqua Lake Railway.
The inspector does not pull any punches about the very poor condition of the rails, ties, bridges, and other parts of the physical plant. He notes the planned branch of the road from Clifton to a connection with the Dunkirk, Allegheny Valley and Pittsburg Railroad at Falconer.
