Below is the 1889 inspection report by the New York State Railway Commissioners of the Chautauqua Lake Railway. There were a number of interesting details about the railroad and its operations in the report.
The line from Mayville to the Chautauqua Assembly Grounds, formerly the Mayville Extension Railroad, was in poor condition and hadn’t been used in a year or two.
The company built a new line the extended about 3/4 of a mile south from their yard and station at Fairmount Avenue in Jamestown. It crossed the tracks of the New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio Railroad (Erie Railroad) and then crossed the Chadakoin River to a freight depot on the south side of the river.
