Corporate History of the DL&W

The Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad itself did not own any tracks in New York State, all of its operations were either through companies it leased or via trackage rights over other railroads. The chart below lists the DL&W-leased companies in New York State and their predecessors. The end date for the leased companies is the year in which they were leased by the DL&W and stopped operating on their own. Some, like the Valley Railroad and the Greene Railroad, were “paper railroads” that were leased and operated by the DL&W as soon as they were built. Others
