New Lights for Lake

Decorative Standards to Be Placed in Front of New Pennsylvania Station.

Decorative lighting standards will be placed on Water street in front of the new Pennsylvania station and the group of hotels at the lake, according to a decision of the village board at the regular meeting last Monday evening. Four or five light units will be used, extending from the corner of Erie and Water street past the hotels. The standards will be similar to the ones installed in the uptown business section last year.

The new station is rapidly nearing completion, and will be ready for use for the summer season. It is of pleasing appearance, one of the most attractive on the division. The Pennsylvania tracks have been raised about four feet through Mayville, and the Chautauqua Traction company tracks on the town side of the station have also been raised about two feet because of the high level of the station. The water tank has also been raised and placed upon concrete pedestals.

Another improvement at the lake will be the construction of a curb on the inside of the curve at the corner of South Erie and Water streets.  Several hundred feet of cement walk will also be built there, to make an unbroken sidewalk from the station to the uptown business section. Street Commissioner Warren Whitney is already working on the scene with his street gang.
