Alexander is a town in Genesee County and was on the Erie Railroad Attica Branch and the New York Central Railroad Attica Branch. The lines of the two railroads paralleled each other through the village and the stations were very near each other on Railroad Avenue.
Additionally, the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad had a station named “North Alexander“, which was sometimes called “Alexander” and another named “East Alexander.” There is a map in the Maps section below showing the locations of all of these stations in and around the village of Alexander.

New York Central Railroad

Erie Railroad

In 1854 the Buffalo, Corning and New York Railroad (BC&NY) completed and began operating the 110 mile line between Corning and Attica via Avon and Batavia, NY. This line was later operated by the Buffalo, New York and Erie Railroad (1857-1863), the Erie Railway (1863 – 1878), the New York, Lake Erie and Western Railroad (1878 – 1895), the Erie Railroad (1895 – 1960), and the Erie Lackawanna Railroad (1960 – 1976). The segment serving Alexander was abandoned in 1976 with the formation of the Consolidated Rail Corporation (Conrail).
Passenger & Freight Operations
Erie passenger train service to Alexander ended on September 30, 1941.
