Two Brakemen Gave Lives in Accident Caused by Dense Atmosphere –
A Number of Cars Were Demolished and Contents Spilled on Right of Way

Steamburg, Oct 4. – (Special.) – Two brakemen were killed early this morning by a tail-end collision of two Erie freight trains, near the Robinson Run crossing, east of this place. There was a heavy fog this morning; it is said there were three trains on the block, and approaching Red House station the first train was stopped. The engineer of the second train could not see the lights on the caboose ahead of him, and smashed into the leading train, wrecking the caboose and derailing a number of cars. The head-end brakeman of the rear train was caught between the engine and tender and crushed; the flagman of the head train was on the caboose and killed. Other men in the rear engine and head caboose escaped with slight injuries.

Among the cars demolished were two cars loaded with grain, three cars loaded with lumber, two cars loaded with coal, and several cars of merchandise. The name of one of the dead men is Anderson. A railroad employee says the other man was not known locally.
