Tracks Sink In the Swamp

Jamestown, Aug. 7,- The swamp along the outlet of Chautauqua lake is covered by a thin crust of earth. A pole, sharpened at one end, can easily be pushed down a number or feet. The Jamestown & Lake Erie railroad is raising its tracks. The earth used for filing in became so heavy on Wednesday that the crust broke and the tracks for a distance of 100 feet sank about ten feet. The hole is being filed as fast as possible. Passengers are transferred at this point, near Clifton.
