Fresh hands were immediately put in their places, and day before yesterday the strikers are came on to the line again with a determination to drive the new gang from the Road. This resulted in a regular riot. Mr. McGrady. the contractor on that section, called in the assistance of Mr. Milton Clements. constable of that town, who in attempting to arrest the rioters, was fell ed to the ground by a violent blow upon the head by a club, which caused his death in a few minutes. Mr Clements was a much esteemed citizen of Portland; and his terrible fate has excited the just indignation of the inhabitants. He leaves a family, At last accounts the murderer had not been arrested.- Westfield Trans, 17th
