South Dayton, NY

South Dayton is a town in Cattaraugus County and was a station on the line between Jamestown and Buffalo. This line was built by the Buffalo and Jamestown Railroad, which became the Buffalo and Southwestern Railroad, and then part of the Erie Railroad. It was sometimes referred to as “Pine Valley” as well as “South Dayton.”

Parts of the line are still in use and South Dayton is now served by the New York & Lake Erie Railroad tourist railroad. The South Dayton station is still standing and is one of the stops for the tourist trains.

The station appears in the films The Natural with Robert Redford and Train, Planes, and Automobiles with John Candy and Steve Martin.
