QUESTION 17. Give the present and past names of the four railroads of Le Roy and the year that trains were first run on each of them.

Answer. The first railroad to ran a train through Le Roy was the Canandaigua & Niagara Falls, which was chartered in 1851 and ran the first train in Jan 1852. Re-organized as the Niagara Bridge and Canandaigua Ry. in 1858 and was leased to the N. Y. Central Railway Sep. 1st, 1858. The New York Central was reorganized as the N. Y. C. & H. R. R. R. Nov. 1, 1869, and as the N. Y. C. R. R. in 1915.

The Erie through LeRoy was first chartered as the Buffalo & Cohocton Valley in 1850. Reorganized as the Buffalo, Corning & New York in 1852, and as the Buffalo, New York & Erie in 1857, as the Erie Ry. in 1861, as the N. Y. L E. & W. in 1879, and as the Erie R. R. in 1895. The first train through Le Roy was in Jan. 1854, shortly after the Canandaigua & Niagara Falls.

The third road through Le Roy was the Rochester & State Line Ry. It ran the first train to Le Roy in Sep., 1874. It was re-organized as the Rochester & Pittsburgh in 1881 and as the Buffalo, Rochester & Pittsburgh Ry in 1883, and later as the Buffalo, Rochester & Pittsburgh Railroad.

The fourth was the Buffalo & Geneva which was chartered in 1886 and leased to the Lehigh Valley in 1891. The first train was run in 1882. (Authorities, N. Y. Railroad Commissioners’ Reports, B., R. & P. Magazine and Le Roy Gazette)
