This 1867 flame war between three newspapers revolves around a report that a locomotive from the Oswego and Syracuse Railroad was sent on the Syracuse, Binghamton and New York Railroad despite the fact that the Oswego and Syracuse was a standard-gauge railroad and the Syracuse and Binghamton was a wide-gauge line. It mentions that the Oswego and Syracuse was contemplating changing to the six-foot broad gauge.
