Construction of the Warren to Salamanca Line

This March 1882 article shows the progress made by the Buffalo, Pittsburgh and Western Railroad to build their line from Warren, PA to Salamanca. It’s not that historically significant, but it gives me a chance to use the word “jollification,” which turns out to be a real word.

See the Olean – Salamanca Line page for information about this line.

The bridge across the Allegheney River at Tuttletown will be completed this week, allowing the construction train to pass over with ties and iron, so that the track to Kinzua can be laid in a few days. This, as all will understand is a branch of the Buffalo, Pittsburgh & Western from Warren to Salamanca. The connection with the Bradford narrow guage will soon be made, and all can go to Bradford by the new road. It is understood that our Kinzua friends intend to have a jollificatlon on the completion of the road to that place. They have been shut out of the world by distance and poor roads all their lives; and now that they are to have railroad communication, they are extremely happy as they have a right to. -Warren Ledger.
