The Erie Railroad River Line was blocked at North Cuba for more than four hours Monday morning when a journal on a refrigerator car burned out and caused the car to leave the rails. The car was part of westbound freight No. 191.
The accident occurred about seven thirty o’clock and the line was cleared shortly before noon. After the derailment the freight diesel engine and forward end of the freight train were taken to the Salamanca yards and a work train with crane was dispatched to the scene. The disabled car was taken to a “cripple switch” near CB tower nad a new truck installed.
Rumors at the scene of the mishap were to the effect that the disabled car contained almost two thousand cases of bottled malt beverage.
