The following (long) 1941 article by Donald Disbrow recounts the history of the Elmira Branch of the Pennsylvania Railroad. Note that there are a few errors and areas requiring clarification in the article:
- The town of “Jefferson” referred to in the article is now known as Watkins, NY.
- The “Canandaigua and Jefferson” referred to in the article was actually the Canandaigua and Elmira Railroad
- The “Sodus Point and Southern” referred to in the article was actually the Sodus Bay and Southern Railroad.
