This article is about the aftermath of the fire in the New York Central union station in Suspension Bridge, NY.
Supt. Burrows has shown great zoal in providing substitutes for our burned depot. He has had 25 or 30 carpenters at work ever since the fire and they have accomplished wonders, considering the inclement weather, which bas been the coldest of the season thus far. The baggage and custom room at the east end of the old depot was completed and occupied on Monday last. The new depot 100×25 feet is enclosed and workmen are engaged in finishing the interior, and it will be ready for use early next week.
It will contain a waiting room, ticket office. dining hall and news stand. A little building 15×20 is being put up west of the depot for an office for the American Express company. None of the temporary structures encroach upon the site of the old depot which is left for the brick depot which is to be commenced early in the spring. Parties were here on Wednesday taking measurements of the railroad lands and tracks about the old depot preparatory to making plans for the new depot which is believed will be made large and commodious to meet the demands of an expected increase of business at this point.
