
History
The Utica, Chenango and Susquehanna Valley Railway was formed in 1866 and built a line between Greene and Utica, NY. The company and was leased in May 1870 by the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad.
The Greene Railroad was incorporated October 18, 1869 and was leased by the DL&W on April 26, 1870. It began construction of the 8 mile line between Greene and Chenango Falls in April 1870 and completed the work in December 1871.
Timeline of the Route
1866: The Utica, Chenango and Susquehanna Valley Railway was formed and constructed the line between Greene and Utica, NY.
1870: The Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad leased the Greene Railroad on April 26 and the Utica, Chanango and Susquehanna Valley on May 1, 1870.
1871: The Greene Railroad completes construction of the line from Greene to Chenango Falls, NY.
1950: Passenger service was discontinued on April 29, 1950.
1960: The Delaware, Lackawanna and Western merged with the Erie Railroad to form the Erie Lackawanna Railroad.
1976: The Erie Lackawanna is combined with other Eastern railroad to form the Consolidated Rail Company (Conrail). The Utica branch was incorporated into to Conrail on April 1, 1976.
1982: The Utica Branch was sold to the New York, Susquehanna and Western Railroad in April 1982.
