On the 2d day of December 1858 a company was organized in this place under the above corporate name for the purpose of building a branch of the Erie & New York City Railroad, of about 10 miles in length, to connect the latter road with the A. & G. W. R. R. of Pa. at or near the southwest corner of the town of Harmony in Chautauqua County. After the organization of said “ten mile Company” nothing was done under the charter. On the 6th of April last the A. & G. W. R. R. Co. in N. Y., a new organization adopted the same ten miles as the route of their road. The last named company having pretty much graded that portion of the “Great Broad Gauge Line” the Company of N. Y. concluded to dissolve, whereupon on Thursday last the Board of Directors met at the office of the Company in this place, and by resolution the dissolution of said company was effected.
The money paid on subscriptions to the Capital Stock of said corporation is being refunded to the corporators.
Thus endeth another chapter of the Railroad History of southwestern New York.
Note: The “A. & G. W.” mentioned in the article refers to the Atlantic and Great Western Railroad.
