Chautauqua Lake Railway 1889 NYS Report

Below is the report filed by the Chautauqua Lake Railway with the New York State Board of Railroad Commissioners for the year ending September 30, 1889.

The report showed that the railroad owned three locomotives with four driving wheels, four passenger cars, and three baggage, mail and express car. It also owned 10 boxcars, 2 coal cars, and 8 flatcars. This was a decrease of five passenger cars and an increase of two baggage cars since the prior year.

The railroad operated 21.17 miles from Jamestown to WNY&P Junction in Mayville and had a 2.68 mile long branch, the former Mayville Extension Railroad, from Mayville to the grounds of the Chautauqua Institution. It also had 2.17 miles of sidings. Interestingly, the branch line to Chautauqua Institution was still laid with iron rails, while the rest of the line was steel. All this was unchanged from the prior year.
